5 Tips for Making a Beautiful Tablescape This Fall

Who else loves setting a pretty table? I do! It might seem a bit excessive to some people, but on any normal week night I’ll use a bamboo table mat and some inexpensive gold chargers alongside napkins, cutlery and glasses – even if it’s just pizza. On the weekends I’ll get even fancier, sometimes using our best plates – the pretty gold foil ones – and our gold cutlery. I’ll pick up my favorite flowers from the grocery store as well as some pretty patterned napkins, grab the gold rimmed wine glasses, and even light some candles for good measure.

With the holidays fast approaching, we’re all thinking more and more about how to decorate our dining tables to make this season as special as it can be. First things first – make sure you’ve got the right dining table for you! We’ve got a great range of solid hardwood dining tables here, with free shipping and no assembly required.

Once you’ve got that sorted, it’s on to the table settings…

Autumn Boho Table Setting

For me, there’s something lovely about sitting down at a table that’s been set with care. Even if it’s just a normal weeknight, you feel as though a special event is taking place – immediately putting you in a better mood! And as the colder months set in and the nights get longer, staying in is the new going out. More and more of us enjoy cooking or entertaining our friends and family at home once it starts getting a bit too cold to venture out.

So today, we’re looking at some beautiful inspiring table settings. It’s all in the details, and you definitely don’t have to spend a fortune to create a lovely tablescape. In fact, plain old white dishes really do match everything, and simply making a few small changes can really make your table setting just as delicious as your meal! Or if you’re not the greatest cook, maybe the pretty table will be so distracting that nobody will notice! 😉

Get Creative with Textiles

Often, I won’t bother with the traditional tablecloth. Instead, get creative! I’ve used throws, fabric cut offs and even scarves for my own table – what  could you use for yours? It really can make a lot of difference to use pattern on the table and keep everything else fairly low key. And the best part is you don’t have to spend a lot of money – in fact, the best place to look is around your own home!

Don’t Forget the Flowers

Personally, I don’t think any table is complete without a bit of life on it, and you can make even the most casual get-togethers that little bit more special with flowers and greenery. Check out the simple styling above – just a few flowers for colours, with eucalyptus along the middle of the table. The arrangement is simple and beautiful without being overpowering. You’ll still be able to see the person on the other side of the table!

Mix and Match

Don’t worry about having a perfectly matching set – some of the most interesting table settings don’t! Use this as an opportunity to play with the items you do have, or to hit up thrift stores and vintage markets for pretty dinnerware. Keep a loose colour scheme in mind in order to pull everything together, as seen on the above table where greens help to create a vintage-inspired setting.

Dress Your Plate

A simple touch, like a name card, can create a formal look at the dinner table but it doesn’t have to be OTT! A small clipping of rosemary alongside a single fig dresses a plate beautifully, creating an impression of care. Nobody has to know it only took you 2 seconds!

Last but not least, don’t forget the candles to add a lovely atmosphere to your dining table. If you’re after a more formal look then opt for taper candles, but shorter candles and votives are a great alternative if you’re looking for something more casual. Dot a few around your table and, in no time, your guests will be relaxed enough to enjoy the evening long after the last course is served.

But remember, the prettiest table setting in the world won’t make up for a tired old dining table – so make sure you’ve got the right dining set for you today. And be sure to follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for all the latest home decor styling tips!
