The changing of the seasons is always a great excuse to update and refresh parts of your home and there’s no better time to do it than in the warmest months. In Spring and Summer, the sun is the highest in the sky and light can pour in, making colours more vivid and brighter and adding a warm and welcoming glow to our style. While you may not want to consider a full makeover of your dining room, there are plenty of things you can do to give it a refresh this season.
Take your cues from the great outdoors and bring nature inside your home for the perfect way to welcome the season. Look for accessories like rattan, wicker, shells, clear glass objects and things that remind you of visits to the beach or hikes in the mountains which will add texture to your dining room. A large glass vase of blooms at the center of your table is a great start but you might also want to think about hanging a few baskets on walls or displaying smooth river stones in a bowl on the sideboard.
Bring in Blooms
Of course, Spring and Summer are when our yards are in bloom so forage for a few cut stems, corral them into vases and dot around your room. Yellow is the perfect color for Spring and its happy vibe will add a light touch to your table even in a space that is neutrally decorated.
Warm it with Wood
Another way to bring the natural world into your dining space is by using warm wood tones throughout. Natural wood as seen in our Bevel Collection above creates warmth in any space but in a dining room, where there are less soft furnishings, it’s a great way to soften a space that naturally has a lot of harder surfaces. It will also feel less visually heavy than darker tones will, giving your space a light and airy feeling to match the great outdoors.
A simple way to bring the season indoors is to swap out your textiles. In a living room or bedroom, this may mean putting away the thick woolen throws or knitted pillows but in the dining room, you may want to do something similar. While you may not have pillows or bedding here, consider swapping out heavy lined curtains for light voiles or change up your table linens for those in fresh cotton or linen. If you have darker or deep pile rugs, have them professionally cleaned and then roll them and store them away for the season, allowing your floors to breath or change them for lighter low-pile fabrics in cotton.
And finally, if you’re up for giving your room a whole new look with paint, consider giving your home a whitewash with brilliant white paint on the walls to make the most of the sunshine. White paint always looks brightest in the summer months and in combination with shades of blue and grey, a coastal look will emerge, the pinnacle of summer style. Our white painted Kemble range is the perfect finishing touch to this look, giving your dining room a summer vibe all year long.
